A Holliwood producer has hired drunken writer Richar Benson (Holden) to write his latest movie. Benson has been holed up in a Paris apartment for months but had written nothing. With two days to the deadline, he hires a temporary secretary (Hepburn) to help him complete the script in time. As the film progress, the real life story and the script in progress unfold at the same time and blend together.

The producers hoped to repeat the success of Audrey's last two movies but Holden lacked the charm of Peppard and the charisma of Grant and also his drinking problems showed on his physique. Hepburn was still charming as ever but, while the critics were favorable, the public stayed away.

This is one of those films with all the right ingredients which didn't come out of the oven quite right, as critic Peter Thompson rightly summarized.
